Thinking the other day about how people talk about this and that in their lives, someone asked me how I change something that I don’t like. After a bit of thought, I replied that I hadn’t thought about it much. Now, I have.
Whenever I see something I don’t like, I don’t put much focus on it. I put focus on something that is positive in the same area.
For example, say I’m spending too much time just hanging out. Now, some people can do this early and often. I’m not really one of those, but say I was. And say that my hanging out time is with people who are not part of those that I respect and it may be having some adverse effects on me. Say that I’m becoming a bit too negative.
Here’s a solution: put time in to focus on finding those who are respectable. I take that back; let’s find people who eek excellence out of their pores. They are nearly always making things better. These people are the cream of our society. Step one: find them! Step two: spend as much time with them as you can. Spending more and more time with these folks will do several things. Among those things are getting you away from people whom shouldn’t be imitated, building better habits, learning new skills, etc.
When time is spent pursuing the great and positive things in life, the foul and rotten falls away. Just as it should!

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I think and being positive or negative.  I’ve come to the conclusion that most of what I think about is negative.  I think a lot about things like how certain people aren’t getting along, disasters in the world like Haiti and Columbine high school.  I’ve thought about wars and how I’m gaining weight.

The feeling of realignment seems right.  There were a lot of times in the past couple of years where I wasn’t psyched on anything.  I was more ‘meh’ about my life.

Nothing comes easily when talking about changing habits.  So as this change comes about, more focus will be put on the positive.  Less time will be allowed for the negative.

This is another letter to a friend who is going through a bit of a tough time and I think that now, after reading, people might benefit from it.

Okay, the thing that helps me in adverse situations is objectivity. I take a step back and look at things. I cannot control what other people do. I can influence them, but I cannot control them.

I don’t think that you are a statistic. You shouldn’t either. If bad things happen, they happen. You should live your life as you would WANT it to be. Do you enjoy living with all of these adverse thoughts?

I thought so. So stop living like that. Live as you would like your life to be. Live as if you are going to get a great job (if you don’t have one already). Live as if you are having a blast with your kids. Live a life of plenty.
